Dotty for Polka Dots

Despite my whole post talking about my forthcoming less than regular posting, I have more reviews tonight! Please do read yesterday's post if you didn't already as it's chock-a with admin stuff and general life rants.

Great Dot Maxi Dress by Moulinette Soeurs
Basically: I don't do maxi dresses. If you have boobs, a waist and wide hips and you're not more than 5'8 then you're probably going to look like a slightly squished sausage which is not the look I'm aiming for. However I saw these gorgeous polka dots and I just couldn't help myself. The whole thing reminds me of a dress from the 1930s.
I'm wearing a UK10/US6 here, which fit really well, so TTS. The top was a little on the sheer side but a light bra will be fine to wear with it. The draped neck is flattering whilst being simple enough that it doesn't interfere with the skirt, which is the real statement. I don't know how they've done it, but this skirt somehow makes me look tall! I thought it was impossible, but there you go. I have a real height complex by the way, just ask my friends. I'm having issues with a guy I like because I'm taller than him in heels. Yeah, I'm that insane.
The downside of this dress? There was something seriously weird happening at the top of the slit in the back of the skirt. At first I thought it was a security tag, but it wasn't that, so I'm hoping this was just a defective one, because it was so bizarre: I looked like a bustle had fallen behind my knees. Not a good look. If it was a mistake I'll be trying to get this on sale, but that begs the question: where can you wear this dress??

Cultural Heritage Skirt by Yoana Baraschi
I have no idea what is up with the name of this skirt, it doesn't seem to fit at all, does it? I've sized up here to a UK12/US8, as I usually do with pencil skirts, so I'd stick with your usual pencil skirt size.
This skirt is quite thin, definitely a spring skirt. It's a very dark navy blue, not a black. I found it was really quite snug, in a good way! The red stitching was a cute touch which gave it an extra nautical edge. The only complaint I had was that the material did feel quite thin and I wonder how well it will hold up.
I can't really think of anything else to say about this one other than I loved it! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for this on sale, but one has to wonder: at what point do you have too many pencil skirts? Is such a thing even possible? Such are the questions of life.

Thank you to everyone who posted such nice things yesterday about my internship. It's nice to be happy, if that doesn't sound trite.
As for my trip to No. 10 yesterday, a little more detail: I had to deliver a book to an advisor and got despatched off with lots of friendly advice ('do not accidentally bypass the security hut or you'll end up as a breaking news story' and 'we'll be watching the news to see if we get so see you going in - better not trip on the kerb!'). I walked there in about ten minutes, willing myself not to stumble, etc. I got there and it took me the longest time to even figure out how to get through the gate, the first of many sympathetic policemen pointed out the way for me. There was a hilarious group of tourists pointing at me and taking snaps.
When I finally got through to the security hut I found the policemen were all really nice, not nearly so forbidding as the ones at the airport. My scarf, of course, managed to get stuck in the x-ray machine, though. Upside was that one thing was bound to go wrong, at least it was only this.
I got to knock on the door of No. 10! I also managed to wrangle a tour of the building which was great as they don't do tours for the public. Is it wrong that as I went up the staircase with the pictures of all the former PMs that I kept thinking about Hugh Grant in Love Actually?
That's about all there was to it, but it was exciting!

Speak soon!

I think you could wear that dress anywhere! It looks FANTASTIC on you. I want it now, except now that I've seen it on you I fear it won't look that great on me!

That dress looks amazing on you. I agree with MM, it would work anyway. And I have that same height complex thing too!

Oh man! That maxi dress looks amazing on you! You must get it. I know you can find a place to wear it. It looks too good on you not to!

When a pencil skirt looks that good and has such lovely little touches, you can never have too many. I agree, the Maxi looks fab. I can see you rocking it at Lords or The Oval with a massive brimmed hat, huge shades and a glass of Pimms :-D
