A Very Potter Premiere...
Firstly: sorry for the insanely long absence. I started another internship as soon as I got back from holiday, and it's been intense, to say the least. The commute is an hour and a half by train! Having to get up at 6am every day so I can be out of the house for 7:30 is clearly not going to be part of my longer life plan...
But, getting onto what you really want to know about! I apologise, that this isn't an Anthro centric post, but I gather some people might like to hear about my red carpet experience for the Harry Potter final premiere! Alas, I didn't wear Anthro - I was too jetlagged to put a proper outfit together :(
By the way, those looking for starry photos will be disappointed, I don't like snapping pictures of stars. I think part of the unspoken agreement of getting to go to events like these is not harassing celebrities.
Here we go!

Here we go!
This was apparently the longest red carpet event in the world! The premiere was in Leicester Square but the carpet started, as you can see, in Trafalgar Square, almost half a mile away! That's the bottom of Nelson's column you can see behind the big screen (and Helena Bonham Carter on it!).
Diagon Alley! I have to admit, I wasn't completely looking forwards to the premiere as I was hugely jet lagged and generally not feeling great. Completely changed my mind once I got to Diagon Alley and I could not have been more of a fan girl. I totally get the appeal of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, now (though I still wish it was in Scotland). On the right we have Potage's Cauldron shop and, more importantly, Ollivanders! Did try to get a picture in front of Ollivanders, but it didn't come out properly - sad face.
I couldn't resist forcing my brother to snap a couple more Diagon photos for me. They really went all out with the details - there was even a guy with a real owl perched on his arm around here (being inundated by small fans - slightly afraid the bird was going to freak out).
Of course, no trip into the world of Harry Potter would be complete without Death Eaters - eep. Some of them were really quite menacing (and one was a little handsy - which is a whole 'nother worry).
Guess which house I would be in :)
The woman with the silver scarf, in the background, is actually Maggie Smith, aka McGonagall which is just confirming my confidence in being a Gryffindor. My brother identifies more with Slytherin!
All along the route there were sections where the public couldn't see in and, as you can see, they weren't going to be stopped!
Once we got to the cinema (the top photograph was snapped just outside the entrance) we had to sit in our seats for about half an hour before they were ready to start. All the while they were showing interviews with the stars on the red carpet, along with the occasional fan interview. This led to one of the funniest events of the night:
Interviewer: I see you've managed to get loads of autographs...
FanGirl: Yeah, it's amazing how many have come over-
I: Ooh, you've even got Alan Rickman, Professor Snape, that's a rare one. What were you thinking as he was coming over, isn't he quite scary?
FG: Oh yeah, I was like "oh, shit!" [slaps hand over mouth]
FG: Oh yeah, I was like "oh, shit!" [slaps hand over mouth]
I: Moving on!
Of course, seeing as this was being broadcast live to TV stations and cinemas across the country the interviewer had to move on, but the poor girl looked mortified. The entire cinema cracked up. Brilliant.
I didn't take any photos of the after party, I'm afraid, sticking to my aforementioned rule on bothering the cast, etc, but I did see nearly everyone, including the ever elusive Alan Rickman (who kept being harassed by people at the party for photos, etc., poor man). Emma Watson was on the dance floor next to me and Natalia Tena's (Tonks) band was playing (she plays the accordion!) and introduced by David Thewlis (Lupin - my favourite) who is just really lovely. Obviously it was an amazing night all round. We did manage to get this photo done on the green screen, my brother and I, as a fairly memorable souvenir. I think it would make a good Christmas card, don't you?

So cool! Thanks for sharing this. The photo of you and your brother in front of the green screen would make an utterly awesome Christmas card! Especially if you could photoshop on some red santa hats.
I agree that it's a bit gauche to take cheesy photos with the celebs at events like this. It's so hard to resist the temptation, though!
The Harry Potter World Premiere sounds so very very fun! I love the photo of you and your brother at the end. Love your dress too!
That red dress is fabulous on you!
You look stunning in that red dress, and I adore the last photo! Hope you weren't too jetlagged to enjoy the movie. :)
oh, this fan girl is sooooo jealous! What a fabulous oppportunity, and I love your classy red dress!
Amazing! You look fantastic and I wish I could have been there. Looks like it was a truly amazing evening!
Wow, I am so incredibly jealous! You looked really lovely, despite the jetlag. :) This post makes me wish I was back at the Wizarding World of HP even more now...
Hope you don't mind me asking, but what did you think of the movie? I've seen it twice now and was blown away both times!
This is insanely cool!! :-). I completely understand not wanting to photograph/harass celebs. I'm sure they are generally accustomed to said harassment, but it must be nice to encounter some people that don't bother them!
HP is my favorite series of books/movies ever, and you and your brother look adorable in the photo - totally Christmas card worthy!!
I am officially jealous! I know how you feel about the photo thing, but after spending a lot of time in Washington, DC with access to a lot of famous people (not all politicians), I now regret not having more photos to show my family, kids, etc...
That is amazing! It is so neat you got to attend such an awesome event. I'm jealous!
Amazing post...your brother is adorable...details of your dress?
I am so jealous of this experience! I took two of my kids to see it on opening day and we were all amazed at how good it was (although nothing, in my opinion, can compete with the books)! Looks like you had an amazing time...thanks for sharing it with us.
I'm jealous too!!! It must have been quite an experience. You look incredible in that red dress. I laughed at that last picture! that's so cool and would make the perfect Christmas card.
Ha that photo is great! You should totally use it for Christmas cards! LOL
I totally would have been one of those annoying fans who wanted to accost everyone, but then would probably lose my nerve at the last minute! I have to say that I am glad that Alan Rickman is finally getting some recognition for his role in these films: I daresay it's about time! And from all that I've heard, he's just lovely and probably enjoys at least some of the fanfare!
Thanks for all the lovely comments!
JG: Great idea! I may have to do that...
Anon: I know what you mean, I just try and make sure I remember weird details instead, like dancing next to Emma Watson (who had to change into ballet flats!).
Tracy: Thank you! The dress is from Coast, a British store, who specialise in evening wear.
Kathleen: I'm sure he is. I just saw a few people run up to him, screaming, while he was at the party, talking to his wife and he was okay about it (if wanting to get it over with) but his wife looked PO'd! I don't blame her, though.
As for those who wanted to know what I thought of the film: stumbled home at midnight last night, having gone to see it again. So, yeah, I loved it. Wept like a baby. Do wish they had wrapped everything up a bit better, but visually it was stunning, and a great way to wrap up the series.
Oh how gorgeous you look in that red dress! Thank you so much for sharing all of these pictures and your experience, as well. What an amazing time you must have had! Add my name to the list of jealous ladies, you lucky girl! :)
whoa! I wish i live in UK in times like this lol. I'm jealous of your big Harry Potter experience. I am a huge fan as well and this event sounds quite exciting!
Holy guacomole! What a fantastic event to be part of (and you look HOT in that dress btw). I still haven't seen the film, I'm waiting a few weeks until the screens aren't quite so packed and the baby has grown a bit so has less room to beat the crap out of me when the really loud noises go off!
You lucky thing, I hope you had a fantastic time despite the jetlag and enjoyed the entire evening :)
How fun! I'm so jealous! Was it easy to get tickets to this?
Louise: Haha! Yeah, maybe a good idea. Not even the solace of being able to go in the day, now that school's out. Damn kids!
Sara: Alas, no. I was really lucky and a friend of the family who was invited passed his tickets on to me as he was too busy.
