Romance in Winter
I'm home! Before we get started, the usual reminder to please submit a Polyvore set or outfit to this weeks Style It! feature - I can't run it, if you don't submit it! This week is focusing on the ever tricky Sugar & Cream Dress. Also, you can vote for next weeks item in the poll on the right.
Two dress reviews tonight!:
Raspberry Jacquard Dress by Maple
Let's start by restating that this dress is raspberry coloured, not red as the Anthro site would, bizarrely, have you believe.
This dress seems to be the same design and fit as the Tupelo Dress, so I think that whatever size you took in that would best suit you (I sized down to a UK8/US4, thanks to the elastic back). However, I wasn't able to try on the right size! The photos you see here are of the UK6/US2 which is what the sales assistants bought me when the UK10/US6 was ridiculously big on me. This is definitely too small, though, so just one size smaller than your usual, or it starts to look a bit smock-like.
The material of this dress is much thicker than the Tupelo, more of a thick party satin. The material is raspberry pink with red dots (as you can see in the last photo). I liked the material a little less than the original, but I can see it being versatile for Christmas and Valentines.
I know I shouldn't like this, but if it gets to second markdown I'm going to make it mine so I can wear it with red heels!
Graphic Flutters Dress by Heyhoe
It feels like an age since we've had a great silk print dress, don't you think? We had a particularly bountiful period last year with the Violet Gloaming Dress and the...erm, other colourful one. It'll come to me.
To start with, I found this ran big, I'm wearing a US4/UK8 here and it was still a tad too big. The shape of the dress is fab, though, and the material doesn't cling in any unflattering ways. The waist cinches in nicely and the colourful waistband acts as a built in waist-attention-seeker.
Remember how gushy I was about the colour of the Gathered Lace Dress? Well, looks like I may have found a replacement! I loved the look of this colour against my skin, the purple is almost glow-y. The print of birds and butterflies manage to be both 1960s-esque and modern at the same time, so I can see that this could be dressed with a vintage cardigan or metallic platform heels for two very different looks. The print is quite original, so it might be hard to wear it often, but I'm just in love. Ah.
Wishlisted and hoping to get it on sale!
So! Paris was fun! I have lots of outfit and out and about photos to post, but I only got back a few hours ago and I have work to do and miles to sleep off. Forgive me if I wait until tomorrow?

The raspberry dress actually looks better than I thought. I totally see it being good for the holidays.
And you are just looking fantastic! Maybe it's the leftover Paris air or something, but whatever it is, it agrees with you! :-)
Love that second dress on you!!! That color really is awesome against your skin.
Hi, i was wondering if the raspberry jacquard dress is actually available in-store in the UK? Because it's not on the website and unfortunately I don't live in either London or Edinburgh so if it is, I would definitely put in a phone call to the store you tried it on in...if you could let me know that'd be great, thanks!
It's in store! I try on all the clothes in the London stores. These photos were taken at Regent St, if that's of any help.
Aw, shucks! Thanks! And hat dress would be awesome for Christmas and Valentines parties. I think the satin sheen. Igbo make it a party dress more than anything.
Awesome, thanks for the heads up!
