White Trash Chic

My first outfit post in forever! I actually wore this on Valentines, and it's taken me a while to get my stuff together. Jack the cat was, I'm afraid, what passed for my secret admirer this year!
Unfortunately, my brother's photography skills were seriously lacking that night, and not only did he not manage to get a single in focus shot of me standing up (!) - he also persisted in trying to loom as high above me as possible, making me look freakishly out of proportion! There will be vengeance, rest assured. In fact, it's making its way to his Facebook wall as we speak.
I'm terming this "white trash chic" - it's a fine line, too far and you stray into pure white trash territory. Hopefully I'm on the right side of the line!
This is one of the aforementioned blurry pictures, but Jack just looked so hilariously malevolent that I couldn't help but include it...
And let me clarify, I am not a mad cat lady. Really. I'm just crazy for this one, small cat. That's it. Promise.
So, these are the awesome sheer polka dot ankle socks that I got from ASOS back in January - they're on sale now (of course!) and I'm kind of tempted to get another pair. They look great peeking out of skinnies. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to wear them like the ASOS model does (is anyone?!), but we'll see.
Whilst talking about ASOS, I thought I should recap on those shoes that I was lusting over. Short version: they went back, as part of my penance for buying the Mulberry (which will be making its fabulous debut soon!). Long version: this is one of those pieces that looked fundamentally better online than it did in person. They just felt cheap. They're made of some fairly poor looking straw, which I hadn't been expecting at all! I assumed they would be a bit plastic-y (almost like the rubber lanyard material, if that makes sense?). Also, the colour is a little more sand and salmon than pink and white. A great idea, but bad execution, dagnabbit (and yes, I'm still trying to bring that word back).
Well, it took me about three weeks, but I'm officially over the shopping ban (though I've yet to cave on anything - just give me time!). I'm also creeping towards my dissertation deadline, so things are going to be as manic as ever for a little while longer.
Make sure you enter the Shopbop giveaway and remember that the Winter Warmth edition of Style It! will run next Sunday.
Good to be back.
Outfit: Dorothy Perkins leopard print top, AG Skinnies, ASOS sheer ankle socks, Steve Madden Trinitie pumps, MAC's Russian Red lipstick.

mmm...jack is looking positively amorous for that leopard print! I don't think you could ever have enough polka dot stockings...
The pictures of you and your cat put the latest Anthro catalog to shame :) You're definitely within the "chic" territory!
Love your socks! I am so tempted to buy a pair but can you tell me more about the socks! Are they prone to tears? Are they super thin?
Adorable! The polka dot socks totally keeps you on the 'chic' side of the line ;o)
Loving the look, especially the shoes!!!
